Thesis Title: Primary care performance for persons with dementia in Ontario: the impact of interdisciplinary primary care on health service use

Summary: Nadia Sourial is a PhD candidate in the Department of Family Medicine at 香蕉视频. She holds a Master鈥檚 of Science in Statistics from 香蕉视频 and a Bachelor鈥檚 of Science in Statistics obtained with distinctions from Concordia University. Her doctoral work focused on describing trends in primary care performance for persons with dementia in Ontario and on using robust causal inference methods to evaluate the impact of interdisciplinary primary care teams on health service utilization in this population. Nadia鈥檚 research also created accessible guidance on the advantages and uses of causal inference methods for impact evaluation. Taken together, the evidence produced in this body of work fills important substantive and methodological gaps in primary care dementia research and will help guide ongoing dementia strategies in Ontario and elsewhere. Nadia鈥檚 PhD was jointly supervised by Dr. Isabelle Vedel and Dr. Tibor Schuster as well as guided by her committee members Dr. Susan Bronskill and Dr. Howard Bergman. She was awarded a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) as well awards from the CIHR Institute for Health Services and Policy Research, the Quebec Network for Research on Aging and the McGill Department of Family Medicine. Her work was supported by a grant from the CIHR-funded Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging and IC/ES, who approved access to the population-level health administrative data in Ontario.
