Isabelle Leblanc, a family physician at the GMF-U St.Mary's for over 15 years, has won aÌýCompetition Attracting Research Excellence (CARE) grant for her project entitled "Too much pain doctor!": Training clinicians to detect expressions of psychological distress in patients of diverse ethnocultural groups. This CARE grant was obtained in collaboration with other Family Medicine members including Jeannie Haggerty, Alayne Adams and Master's student Maddie Leggatt.
Prior to medecine, Dr. Leblanc obtained a Master's in Anthropology and her research interests include advocacy, transcultural medical practice and global health.

The Competition Attracting Research Excellence (CARE) research funding program was established in 2008 with the support of the St-Mary’s Hospital Foundation. The goal of this program is to assist St-Mary’s Hospital health care professionals and researchers involved in patient care to attain scientific excellence.
