Scope of work:

Lot 2 of this project consists of renovating the lab and upgrades to mechanical and electrical distribution in lab R1-038.

Minor electromechanical work will take place in the adjacent hallway (1-HALL4 and 1-HALL3) and in room R1 018B.

Impact & mitigation:

  • Exterior portion:
  • An exterior zone in the Raymond courtyard will be fenced off and used as a storage space, container location and an alternative access point to the site.
  • Service shutdowns:
  • Minor electrical and ventilation service shutdowns will be required. Occupants and users of affected buildings and rooms will be informed in advance.
  • A temporary fire alarm bypass will be required within the affected zone.
  • During construction, access to Raymond’s electromechanical rooms will be required for related work. Such construction work will be coordinated in advance with the building director, adjacent projects and the building occupants.

Safety considerations:

The project includes demolition work that will disrupt materials containing silica and asbestos. All applicable safety protocols will be put in place. The safety protocols include dust-containment methods such as setting up enclosures to isolate the work area and putting it under negative pressure, decontamination showers, as well as using specialized vacuuming equipment. It will also include cleaning and regular inspections.
