Please be advised that Ï㽶ÊÓƵ has mandated Ceveco Inc. to carry out the following project: 19-016 Reconstruction of Upper Main Road, Downtown Campus
This project consists of the reconstruction of the Upper Main Road, from the Y intersection to the McCall MacBain Arts Building, including underground work.
Construction start date: June 17, 2024
Planned construction end date: October 2025
Work schedule:Â Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Project Manager:Â Simon Lacoste-Â simon.lacoste [at] mcgill.ca
Assistant Project Manager: Marcela Fernández Pedrozo - marcela.fernandezpedrozo [at] mcgill.ca
Scope of work:
- Demolition of existing road, from Y intersection up to front of McCall MacBain Arts Building.
- Excavation for installation of rainwater management system.
- Reconstruction of road, including underground work, paving, landscaping, and installation of new lighting and exterior furniture.
Impact & mitigation:
- Certain parts of Upper Main Road will be inaccessible to vehicular and pedestrian traffic at times. Alternative routes, including universal access, will be available and communicated through signage.
- There will be increased vehicle traffic from the Milton Gates to the mobilization site in front of the Macdonald-Harrington Building.
- Work will produce high levels of noise and dust.
- Some entrances to surrounding buildings will be closed at times. Users will be directed to alternative entrances.
- The four evergreens in front of the McCall MacBain Arts Building, which were planted about 20 years ago and have since shown significant decline, will be removed. This not only will reveal the building’s facade, but will also make room for larger areas of vegetation and more accommodating slopes. The proposed design will be safer and more inclusive, while reducing the heat-island effect.
