Associate Professor

Sébastien Breau
Biography:

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography. I arrived at McGill in 2006, fresh out of the PhD program and having previously worked for a couple of years in the private sector. As an economic geographer, my research focuses on understanding the spatial dimensions of recent patterns of income inequality.

Over time, I have served on a number of different committees across campus and within the social sciences research community (e.g., SSHRC, FQRSC). I am currently Academic Director of the McGill-Concordia Quebec Interuniversity Center for Social Statistics (QICSS Lab), a member of Senate and just finishing up a 1-year term as Interim Chair of the Department of Geography.

On weekends, I can usually be found camping (preferably by a quiet lake somewhere!), out and about in hockey rinks or on the slopes with family and friends.

Universities are large and complex institutions. Having someone to talk to who knows the milieu can help in terms of demystifying certain things and striking the right work-life balance.
