Accessible by Design: Access in a Field Course

Tuesday, November 16, 2021 14:00to16:00

What does an inclusive and accessible field course look like? This workshop highlights how disability-related barriers may show up in field contexts in contrast to a traditional classroom setting. By learning creative ways to address accessibility issues from the outset, instructors will be able to promote equitable access within their respective disciplines for students with disabilities, increase their awareness of barriers that students experience, and facilitate access in a field course setting.

By attending this workshop, instructors will be able to:

  • Identify barriers that students with disabilities may experience in fieldwork
  • Discuss different types of field activities and identify opportunities to enhance accessibility
  • Develop responses to frequently asked questions that students with disabilities may have before choosing to participate in their field course
