Bastien Castagner
Biography:

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics and a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Therapeutic Chemistry. I am interested in drug discovery at large, imagining and making new molecules that can inhibit the toxins of C. difficile. I am also interested in the human gut microbiota and how to modulate it for human health, cancer in particular.

I am from Montreal, but studied in New York and spent years in Switzerland. I was a Group Leader in Zurich before coming back to Montreal. I have benefited from formal and informal mentorship from colleagues within the university and outside. I believe in the value of discussing strategies and important decisions with academics outside of your field who are at an arm’s length. I am also involved in the Melville Initiative that aims at celebrating and promoting diversity in Pharmacology. I am also part of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences EDI working group.
