Biography:

Benjamin Smith is a clinician-scientist at the Research Institute of the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Health Centre. His research program aims to reduce the burden of chronic obstructive lung disease by understanding the heterogeneity of disease susceptibility and impairment. Leveraging contemporary deeply phenotyped cohorts, he uses epidemiological methods to test mechanistic hypotheses in humans ('translational epidemiology'). His research program is supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the National Institutes of Health. His training is in respiratory medicine and physiology, epidemiology, and mathematics, and was obtained at McGill and Columbia Universities. His primary McGill appointment is in the Department of Medicine, with memberships in the Meakins-Christie Laboratories, and the Departments of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health, Experimental Medicine, and Physiology.
