O'Connor McCourt Family Experiential Learning Award

The O’Connor McCourt Family Experiential Learning Award is a unique opportunity for Bieler School of Environment students to develop research knowledge; analytical competence; develop new skills and create exceptional initiatives leading to active learning outside the classroom.

Selection Criteria:

The Award encourages cross-disciplinary activities of students who are participating in experiential learning opportunities including, but not limited to, special research projects, independent study, internships, laboratory, and field work. This Award is open for applications to conduct field work or laboratory research for credit or non-credit or to facilitate McGill recognized internships. It is also open for initiatives that will result in the student to 'learn by doing', typically under supervision, but exceptionally also on your own. Students must show demonstrated and focused approach to their education in environment initiatives on campus or external to the University.

To be eligible you must be registered as a Bieler School of Environment Major or Bieler School Honours (not open to SSS students) student and have completed all the course requirements of at least the first year of study (or two academic terms) of your degree and registered at the time of application for terms following the award. Internal or external supervisors are approved by the Bieler School of Environment Director and the project must entail recognized environmental research or learning outcomes.

The Award application should highlight the learning value of the activities to be undertaken and associated challenges, may it be the research potential in the areas of environmental research or other benefits to the student and society and outline the quality of the training and experience to be received. When selecting students for awards, the School will take into account, the objectives of the Award and the impact of the student experience and innovative opportunities.
