Bieler School of Environment Welcomes New Director

Professor Anthony Ricciardi named as the school's newest director

The Bieler School of Environment is thrilled to announce Professor Anthony Ricciardi as its new director, effective immediately. An expert in invasion ecology and aquatic ecosystems, Ricciardi has been a key figure at the school since 2001 and now steps up to lead.

“My vision for the School is to become the gateway of environmental research at McGill,” said Ricciardi.

Founded in 1998, the BSE appoints directors for five-year terms.

While the school bids farewell to outgoing director Frédéric Fabry, who will remain with the school, it eagerly welcomes Ricciardi. Dean Valérie Orsat expressed gratitude for Fabry’s dedicated service and excitement for Ricciardi’s leadership.

“As we welcome Professor Ricciardi, we also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Frédéric Fabry for his five years of dedicated service as Director.”

Ricciardi acknowledges the challenges of leading an environmental school in 2025 but is optimistic about the future. “We have a responsibility to become a trusted source of information on current and emerging threats to ecosystems,” he said.

Welcome aboard Director!
