It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Dr. Joel Turner to the newly created position of Associate Chair, Clinical Practice, in the McGill Department of Emergency Medicine, effective January 1, 2021.
In the role of Associate Chair, Dr. Turner will focus on enhancing and harmonizing emergency medical care across the McGill network. Dr. Turner will work in close collaboration with the McGill sites to promote excellence in quality of care and operational performance.
Dr. Turner obtained his medical degree and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ in 2003, was FRCPC-EM Program Director (2009-2013), where he introduced Point of Care Ultrasound, established the EM Ultrasound Fellowship Program and created the first mandatory POCUS resident rotation in the country, all the while being Fellowship Program Director (2013-present) and Course Director of the ePOCUS Essentials Core Course and Certification Bootcamps. He is co-author of the Essentials of Point of Care Ultrasound, and has taught nationally and internationally at EDE2, EDE3 courses, as well as in Qatar.
Dr. Turner is passionate about Clinical Practice and one of his stated goals is foster collaboration with key stakeholders across the McGill network, to ensure the ED care delivery model continues to evolve to match the needs of patients, the department, and the community.
Dr. Turner is a member of a number of Canadian and American Ultrasound societies. More recently, he received the 2019 Educator of the Year Award from the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society.
