DISE PhD grad Miranda Campbell short-listed for the 16th annual Donner Prize
Miranda Campbell, DISE PhD 2010 graduate and now professor of English at Dawson College has been short-listed for the prestigious 16th Annual Donner Prize. Her book "Out of the Basement: Youth Cultural Production in Practice and in Policy is one of five books vying for the 2013/2014 Donner Prize, the award for the best public policy book by a Canadian. Dr. Campbell's book was based on her dissertation which was supervised by Dr. Bronwen Low.
DISE Welcomes New Faculty Member Dr. Lisa Starr
The Department is excited to welcome Dr. Lisa Starr to McGill. Dr. Starr moved to DISE from the University of Victoria, and is going to be strongly focused on teacher education. She is experienced in this area and completed her PhD on the topic, so will be well-placed to help us think about how to evolve our programs.聽
Faculty of Education undergrad Jennifer Looi recognized with prestigious international award
Congratulations to Faculty of Education undergraduate student Jennifer Looi for her outstanding achievement in the Teacher Education category at The Undergraduate Awards 2013 Global Summit. Jennifer, who is in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), was invited to Dublin earlier this month to accept her award, and meet similarly accomplished students from around the world to exchange ideas.
Making an impression: Inuit artist and DISE student's art to be featured on five-dollar coin
McGill鈥檚 First Nations and Inuit Education (FNIE) celebrates Nunavik artist Ulaayu Pilurtuut, whose design 鈥淢other and Baby Ice Fishing鈥� has been selected by the Royal Canadian Mint to be featured on the new five-dollar silver coin. Girls, Sport and Physical Education in the Global South, a presentation by Ph.D. candidate Lysanne RivardFaculty of Education Ph.D. candidate Lysanne Rivard, from the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), researches the quality of girls鈥� physical education programming in the global south. Using photovoice and the participatory process, she brings forward girls鈥� voices to key policy makers in Rwanda.
Dr. Aziz Choudry of DISE co-edits new book entitled "NGOization"
Edited by Dr. Aziz Choudry and Dr. Dip Kapoor, NGOization - Complicity, Contradictions and Prospects, examines the growth and spread of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) through a collection of richly detailed international and local case studies.
DISE's Dale Boyle PhD a winner in International Songwriting Competition
The Faculty of Education's arts-based education researcher Dale Boyle PhD has won second place in the Americana category of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC)聽 for his song 鈥淵ou Might Come Around鈥� from his recent album "Throwback".
Dr. Beverly Baker and Dr. Aziz Choudry of DISE recently awarded SSHRC Connection Grants
Dr. Baker聽and Dr. Choudry were recently awarded SSHRC Connection Grants to fund knowledge mobilization activities, aiming to facilitate the multidirectional flow of knowledge between universities and the community.
The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal awarded to four members of the Faculty of Education community
This medal is awarded to citizens or permanent residents of Canada who have made significant contributions to Canada or for an outstanding achievement abroad that has brought great credit to Canada.
