- The pandemic of obesity is associated with many non-communicable diseases of which the most recent are the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)
- Western Diet is thought to be prominent in maintaining global obesity and the role of diet in promoting IBD has been more and more recognized in the last decade
- The four main features of western diets promoting systemic inflammation and hence breakdown of the intestinal barrier are discussed and the aspects tying Crohn’s disease to obesity is highlighted.
