Quebec Will Abolish Time Limits on Sexual Assault Lawsuits

The Quebec government recentlyÌýtabled legislation that will abolish the time limits onÌýsexual assault lawsuits. Currently, the time limit for sexual assault lawsuits is 30 years. This change to legislation, which would allow victims to sue for damages no longer how much time has passed since the sexual assault,ÌýhasÌýbeen long sought after by survivors and advocates.

Quebec Justice Minister Sonia LeBel tabled the bill, a move which was applauded by all parties at the National Assembly. The bill is expected to quickly be passed into law.Ìý
