Carolyne Van Der Meer
Carolyne Van Der Meer is a public relations and communications professional, journalist and author. Her journalistic, academic and creative work has been published internationally. Her corporate communications experience includes media relations and strategy, and the gamut of internal and external communications.Â
Carolyne has specific expertise in media analysis, which is used to develop media relations strategies through qualitative and quantitative measurement of media coverage. She has lectured on the subject on many occasions, and co-authored a chapter on the topic in the first Canadian PR textbook, Fundamentals of Public Relations and Marketing Communications in Canada, published by University of Alberta Press.Â
Carolyne has undergraduate and graduate degrees in English Studies from University of Ottawa and Concordia University respectively, and a Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing from the Humber School for Writers in Toronto. She has three published books: Motherlode: A Mosaic of Dutch Wartime Experience (Wilfrid Laurier University Press, 2014); Journeywoman (Inanna Publications, 2017); and Heart of Goodness: The Life of Marguerite Bourgeoys in 30 Poems | Du cœur à l'âme : La vie de Marguerite Bourgeoys en 30 poèmes (Guernica Editions, 2020). Heart of Goodness, for which she translated her own poems into French, was awarded second prize in the Poetry category of the 2021 Catholic Media Association's Annual Book Awards and was shortlisted in the Specialty Books category of The Word Guild’s 2021 annual Word Awards. A full-length poetry collection, Sensorial is forthcoming from Inanna in 2022.
