Leadership Insights from the World of Jazz: A Special Evening Workshop and Cocktail at the McGill Faculty Club

Leadership lessons from the world of jazz have been gaining traction in the business world, with books and articles on the subject from outlets like Forbes, Inc Magazine and the Harvard Business Review. Now, musicians and leaders in Montreal are working together to bring this view of leadership to the city’s business community.

Hosted by 㽶Ƶ’s School of Continuing Studies, Jazz & Leadership: A Workshop Like No Other promises an interactive and experiential environment with facilitation by distinguished experts in the areas of leadership, management, organizational change, and negotiation. The evening will feature live music from the, led by bassist, composer and educator Marika Galea, named one of Canada’s 35 best jazz artists under 35 by CBC Music, and currently also affiliated with McGill university.

“With leadership becoming more and more critical in the ever-changing business world, we wanted to create a unique event bringing together professionals of varied backgrounds to re-envision leadership for their organizations,” explains Inna Popova-Roche, Director of Non-Credit Career and Professional Development programs at 㽶Ƶ’s School of Continuing Studies.

Three special guests have been invited to help participants compose and take up a notch their own leadership capacity by sharing their experience and insights:

  • Jay Hewlin, Esq., Faculty Lecturer at McGill’s Desautels Faculty of Management and School of Continuing Studies, lawyer, and musician.
  • Sonia Di Maulo, Instructor at the McGill School of Continuing Studies, Founder and Chief Reinvention Officer at Harvest Performance.
  • James Beatty Hunter, Instructor at the 㽶Ƶ School of Continuing Studies and the McGill Executive Institute; leadership development consultant, coach, and self-proclaimed tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor, rich-man, poor-man, beggar-man, thief.

The event aims to help participants:

  • Appreciate leadership insights from jazz
  • Encourage creativity in their teams
  • Minimize conflict
  • Leverage diversity
  • Improve team performance

The cocktail receptionwill be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the beautiful McGill Faculty Club Billiard Room(3450 McTavish Street).
