Leading sustainable apparel manufacturer Gildan has partnered with the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management to advance the University’s Sustainable Growth Initiative. The collaborative effort aims to create actionable strategies for businesses transitioning to sustainability. Over three years, Gildan will be generously contributing $150,000 to McGill's Annual Grand Challenge on Sustainability. The event, launching this August, encourages Canadian students to address apparel industry sustainability issues.
CIBC has donated $1.25 million to the Sustainable Growth Initiative (SGI) at 㽶Ƶ's Desautels Faculty of Management. CIBC's gift to the SGI will support a cross-faculty partnership between the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Law to develop practical and actionable solutions for building a more sustainable economy.
Marcel Desautels, LLD’07 (CM, O Ont, OM) generously donated both his resources and his time to furthering business education at McGill. The business leader and philanthropist passed away on January 31 at the age of 88. Desautels invested over $38 million in students, programs, research and facilities at the Desautels Faculty of Management. “Marcel was deeply passionate about inspiring others to give and get involved,” says Dean Yolande Chan. “And because he believed in us, so many others did too.
In 2018, when the Fetherstonhaugh family envisioned an award to recognize and reward teaching excellence, they hoped for great teachers and at the Desautels Faculty of Management extraordinary teachers emerged. As the recipient of the 2022 Fetherstonhaugh Family Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award for Undergraduate Programs, Prof. of Practice Sujata Madan engages with students in a way that promotes and accelerates their classroom and lifelong learning.
Last week, Desautels' Career Management and University Advancement teams hosted the beloved MBA Summer Social event. After a two-year hiatus, attendees were able to reconnect with classmates and meet other members of the Desautels community over drinks and appetizers in-person.
Many service-oriented businesses suffered during the pandemic, but it was a boon for Paper, an online tutoring company. Led by Philip Cutler (BEd’13) and Roberto Cipriani (BSc’08), the company was a finalist in the 2014 Dobson Cup, an annual start-up competition that fosters entrepreneurship and gives cash awards to the best budding businesses. Today, Paper counts more than 450 staff, and over 2,200 tutors.
A new scholarship has been launched in honour of Devon Haye (BCom’20), who passed away after a long and courageous battle with lymphatic cancer.
First awarded in 2007 and generously supported by Paul Desmarais, Jr., the Desmarais Faculty Scholar Awards are given in three year cycles to leading Desautels finance researchers.
