This year was exceptionally competitive, with 77 applications from ASIS&T members from 10 countries. This is the second time in two years a SIS student has won this award. Congratulations Rhiannon!

Congratulations to McGill School of Information Studies doctoral candidates Rhiannon Gainor and Qing Zou, whose team won the annual Information System Design Competition at the 2013 Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) conference!
The McGill School of Information Studies (SIS) is strongly represented at the Nov. 1-5 in Montreal.
The conference is co-chaired by Dr. France Bouthillier, SIS Director and faculty member. Faculty, affiliated researchers, and students are participating in panels and workshops and presenting papers and posters.
Allana Mayer, School of Information Studies MLIS II student is the winner of the ProQuest , open to LIS students worldwide!The Roger K. Summit Scholarship, awarded annually by ProQuest, recognizes LIS students who demonstrate outstanding interest or performance in electronic information services.The award is the equivalent of US $5,000 and will be presented at the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Annual Conference.
Congratulations to School of Information Studies PhD student Jonathan Dorey on receiving a FQRSC research grant!
Jonathan's research investigates the increased access and use of digital and digitized archives for undergraduate students, with FQRSC funding to December 2014. His PhD supervisor is Prof. Catherine Guastavino.

Guillaume Boutard, graduating PhD student at the School of Information Studies, has been awarded a major Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) grant with co-PI Fabrice Marandola (Schulich School of Music).
Their interdisciplinary research project focuses on "Documentation, Dissemination and Preservation of Compositions with Real-time Electronics".

The following School of Information Studies MLIS and PhD students presented at the 12th Annual EGSS conference: "Meeting in the Middle: (de)Constructing Knowledge|Rencontres au milieu: constructions et déconstructions du savoir" on March 15 and 16, 2013.
Congratulations to School of Information Studies MLIS student Sarah Wilkinson on her book review in the , the journal of the Association of Canadian Archivists. Sarah reviewed The Lone Arranger: Succeeding in a Small Repository by Christina Zamon, published by the Society of American Archivists. .
School of Information Studies Masters of Library & Information Studies (MLIS) Archival Studies specialization students Parvaneh Abbaspour, Kerry Goodfellow, Nailisa Tanner, and Emily Zheng contributed a report to the December 2012 issue of the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) Bulletin on the Digital Preservation Management Workshop held at McGill this past September. The ACA workshop was hosted by the School of Information Studies and featured SIS faculty member Dr. Carolyn Hank as a guest instructor.
