In September 2021, the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management concluded its first edition of the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification. Kate Richardson, a graduate of the McGill Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, became the first graduate of this new program. As a senior manager, she felt the Black Belt would be a key asset to her role and credits the program with deepening her understanding of data, its significance and how it can be used to solve problems.
In 2002, McGill became the first university in Canada to offer the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program through the Desautels Faculty of Management. Alex Boussetta, a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt who teaches the Green Belt and Black Belt programs at McGill, has expanded his reach to help organizations like the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) improve the quality of their services. Through Lean Six Sigma training, members of the CMHA’s Halton Region branch have discovered new tools to measure and improve program effectiveness.
Alex Boussetta, who has instructed Lean Six Sigma courses at Desautels since the early 2000s, shares a story of transformation within the Region of Peel in the Greater Toronto Area. Thanks to the training he provided, the Region of Peel’s analytical team approaches their work in a more systematic, efficient way.
Congratulations to Alex Boussetta for receiving the Dean’s Service Award for Outstanding Contribution.
Former Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management, Isabelle Bajeux-Besnainou, established and awarded this special Dean’s Service Award to Alex, however, the original presentation was delayed until this year.
Teaching at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ since 2003, Alex is recognized for his considerable contributions to the Faculty through his work at the graduate and executive program levels, particularly in leading the Lean Six Sigma series.
Building on the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course, the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course turns process experts into change agents within their organization. Geared toward high-level executives, the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course uses AI, machine learning, and other data tools to help participants identify and forge a path to success.
In lean times, leaders face the challenge of delivering results without additional resources. Since 2002, McGill’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course has equipped mid-level and aspiring managers with the data-driven tools they need to improve their quality of operations while cutting down on time, waste, and cost.
