During an announcement at the University of Ottawa today,听94 research projects in universities across the country were awarded funding from the NSERC Strategic Partnership Grants program. Nine McGill projects are together receiving more than $4.1 million from the funding envelope to partner with a supporting organization on strategic research, including highly innovative research in green energy storage.

香蕉视频 was one of 12 recipients of a mini-grant awarded today by the American Association of Universities (AAU) to support reform in undergraduate STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education.听

McGill was the only Canadian institution to receive an award and, in addition to being one of only two Canadian members of the AAU Network, will now join the AAU鈥檚 STEM Education Network along with such peer American universities as Yale University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the California Institute of Technology, and Cornell University.

The community received a message last week from Provost Christopher Manfredi regarding a disturbing communication on social media that was sent by one of our students. I was shocked to read that Twitter post and want to make it clear that the University condemns all expressions of hatred and attempts to incite violence, including any that have been made in reaction to the post.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada has awarded an E.W.R Steacie Memorial Fellowship to Prof. Tomislav 贵谤颈拧膷颈膰, to support his work in an innovative branch of chemistry that aims to develop environmentally friendly alternatives to solvent-based chemical processes. 听

NSERC awards up to six of these two-year, $250,000 fellowships annually to enhance the career development of outstanding and highly promising scientists and engineers.

One of the big mysteries in the scientific world is how the ice sheets of Antarctica formed so rapidly about 34 million years ago, at the boundary between the Eocene and Oligocene epochs.

There are 2 competing theories:

The first explanation is based on global climate change: Scientists have shown that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels declined steadily since the beginning of the Cenozoic Era, 66 million years ago. Once CO2 dropped below a critical threshold, cooler global temperatures allowed the ice sheets of Antarctica to form.
