Alfonso Mucci, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences,has been elected an American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fellow. He joins 53 other individuals in the 2022 Class of Fellows. AGU, a nonprofit organization that supports 130,000 enthusiasts to experts worldwide in Earth and space sciences, annually recognizes a select number of individuals as part of its Honours and Recognition program. Since 1962, the AGU Fellows Committee has selected less than 0.1% of members as new Fellows.
Professor Robert Lecker has been awarded the prestigious , a biennial prize recognizing achievement in critical or imaginative literature from the Royal Society of Canada.
The citation reads as follows:
The Faculty of Science Excellence Awards recognize outstanding performance and contributions made by members of the Faculty’s administrative and support staff classified in four categories: Academic Associate, Clerical, Management, and Technical. The committee, comprised of staff members from each department, received nominations for three of these categories.
The recipient of theLeo Yaffe Awardfor 2022 is Gabriel Venne, assistant professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. The award is given each year to recognize a faculty member for superior teaching at the undergraduate level in the Faculty of Science.

Bruno Latour, who delivered the 2021 Lin Centre Annual Lecture, has been awarded the prestigious Kyoto Prize, "presented to individuals who have made significant contributions in the fields of science and technology, as well as the arts and philosophy." Setting the standard in the fight against food fraud
The Museum is proud to announce two winners of the annual REDME (Redpath Museum Excellence Award) this year.
The Faculty of Science Excellence Awards recognize outstanding performance and contributions made by members of the Faculty’s administrative and support staff.
This year’s winner in the inaugural Academic Associate category is Jean-Marc Gauthier, from the Department of Chemistry.
The Leo Yaffe Award is given each year to recognize a faculty member for superior teaching at the undergraduate level in the Faculty of Science.
The recipient for 2021 is Dr. Rustum Choksi from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, an outstanding educator, who communicates the beauty and relevance of mathematics to students from all backgrounds.
The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that two of its scholars have been named Canada Research Chairs. ProfessorEvan Fox-Decent (member of the Research Group on Constitutional Studies) has been named the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Cosmopolitan Law and Justice, and ProfessorSébastien Jodoinhas been named the Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Human Rights and the Environment.
The prize jury said "In this richly theorized and elegantly written book, Yves Winter offers a systematic treatment of Machiavelli's distinctive approach to political violence. Winter's analysis illuminates the public and performative nature of political violence in Machiavelli's thought and emphasizes how Machiavelli crucially views violence as a spectacle rather than merely a means to punish or coerce behavior.
Debbie Moskowitz of 㽶Ƶ is the 2020 recipient of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Lifetime Contributions to Canadian Psychology. This awardis presented to recognize CPA Members or Fellows who have given exceptional and enduring lifetime contributions to Canadian Psychology during their career.
Daniel Weinstock, a founding member of the Lin Centre's faculty and a member of its Research Group on Constitutional Studies, has been appointed as the next holder of the Katharine A. Pearson Chair in Civil Society and Public Policy in the Faculties of Law and Arts.
