Vujovic, Hetherington shine in Quebec swim meet
MONTREAL – Marija Vujovic of Aurora, Ont., and Danielle
Hetherington of Richmond Hill, Ont., posted three podium finishes
apiece as the McGill Martlets finished third at the second Quebec
Cup swim meet of the season, held in Quebec City, Saturday.
Laval dominated the women’s division with 177 points, followed by
Montreal (95), McGill (37), Sherbrooke (14) and UQTR (0).
Vujovic, a 17-year-old science freshman, combined with leadoff
sprinter Hetherington to finish second in the 4x100 freestyle
relay, which was clocked at four minutes, 12.58 seconds. Other
members of the relay included freshman Jiyoon Oh of Langley, B.C.,
and junior Kyla Ashbury of Toronto.
Vujovic also combined with Oh and Caitlin Berry and Kristyna
Cleminson to finish second in the 4x100 free (4:32.55) and placed
third in the 800m freestyle (1:15.10).
Hetherington, a 21-year-old senior in her second year as team
captain, swam leadoff on the 4x100 free. She also placed third in
both the 50-and-200-metre freestyles, posting times of 28.08
seconds and 2:11.32, respectively.
Rounding out the Martlet medal count was Leanne Roach, a freshman
from Riverview, N.B., who was third in the 100m breaststroke
(1:15.20).
The swim team will send a few members to a Canada Cup meet in
Etobicoke, Ont., Nov. 28-30. After that, they are scheduled to hold
a post-Christmas training camp in Waikiki, Hawaii, Dec. 26 to Jan.
8, before resuming their conference schedule with the third Quebec
Cup competition, at Trois-Rivières, Jan. 10.
