MONTREAL, Que. - McGill volleyball senior Jennifer Thomson of Rosemère, Que., capped off her university career with a few final honours at the team's annual awards gala.

The five-time all-Canadian power-hitter was named as most valuable player as well as being recognized as the most outstanding defensive player. Other major awards handed out by head coach ¸é²¹³¦³óè±ô±ð µþé±ô¾±±¹±ð²¹³Ü, went to Daphnée-Maude ´¡²Ô»å°ùé-²Ñ´Ç°ù¾±²Ô (rookie of the year) of Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac, Que., Rebecca Canam (most improved player) of Yellowknife, and Victoria Pelletier (most sportsmanlike player) of Westmount, Que.

Thomson, a fifth-year power hitter, earned second-team all-Canadian status and became one of the few players in CIS history to achieve all-Canadian status in each of her five university seasons. The 23-year-old master's student in education, finished third among league leaders in digs (3.71), fifth in kills (3.02 per game), seventh in service aces (0.37) and eighth in hitting percentage (.226). Thomson also established a team record for passing efficiency (2.07 out of 3.0), converting 69 per cent of all the balls she intercepted.

´¡²Ô»å°ùé-²Ñ´Ç°ù¾±²Ô, who stands 5-foot-7 and plays the libero position, had an impressive debut in a McGill uniform, seeing action in 61 of the 66 regular-season sets, the second-highest total on the team. A 19-year-old education freshman who majored in teaching French as a second language, she averaged 2.95 digs per set, which ranked second-best on the squad.

Canam, a 19-year-old science freshman, saw little court time but showed great improvement in practice and non-conference play. The 5-foot-10 winger who plays the right side, is expected to play a larger role next season.

Pelletier is a 20-year-old management freshman who maintained a great attitude and positive mind-set despite not seeing much playing time. A 5-foot-9 power-hitter, she worked hard every practice and fit in well with her teammates.
