Sure-handed Soberano strikes twice, Martlets streak at 73
Ìý
OTTAWA - Senior Amy Soberano, a defensive-minded forward from Toronto, scored her first two goals of the season, including the game winner, as No.1-ranked McGill extended their win streak to 73 games with a 4-2 road victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees, Sunday.
Ìý
It was Ottawa's 25th straight loss to McGill, which owns a 39-2-1 overall record in their last 42 meetings against the Gee-Gees.
Ìý
Veteran Rebecca Martindale of Kingston, Ont., added a goal and an assist for the Martlets, who led 1-0 after one period and 2-1 after two.
Ìý
Soberano opened the scoring at 5:20 of the first period and later tallied a power-play marker to give McGill a 3-1 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the game. The Gee-Gees made it 3-2 when Erika Pouliot of St. Joseph de Beauce, Que., netted her second of the game at 18:39.
Ìý
McGill captain Vanessa Davidson, the Kirkland, Que., native who leads the league in scoring with 10-15-25 in 13 games, iced the contest only 12 seconds remaining, getting an empty-netter on the power-play.
Ìý
Penalties were a huge factor as McGill went 3-for-8 with the extra attacker, while Ottawa was 1-for-3. The Martlets have the second-best power-play in the nation and are operating with a 30.3 per cent success rate (20-for-66).

Ìý
The division-leading Martlets improved to 13-0 on the season and will host the second-place Montreal Carabins (10-2-1) on Jan. 22. Ottawa, which sits in third at 4-8-1, plays their next game at Concordia (1-8-3) on Jan. 23.
