Sherbrooke surprises Martlets in RSEQ indoor soccer semifinal

MONTREAL -- Sophie Normandin scored twice on breakaways as Sherbrooke upset the McGill Martlets 2-1 in an RSEQ indoor soccer sudden-death semifinal at the Centre Sportif Marie-Victorin, Sunday.
Ìý
"It was our first game after a three-week bye but I don't thinkthat was a factor," said McGill head coach Marc Mounicot. "We were unable to overcome the loss of defender Sophie Rioux and had to move people around to compensate for her injury, which made for a difficult game for our back end as we had to deal with Normandin and Duquette, two speedy forwards from Sherbrooke."
Ìý
The Martlets had got off to a good start, scoring early on a nice header by Bianca Cordileone who converted a cross from Katherine Green.
Ìý
Sherbrooke rallied to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Ìý
"We dominated play early in the second half and had many dangerous situations on shots or corners but were not sharp in in our finishing," said Mounicot. "We were beaten on a counterattack again against the flow of play and after that Sherbrooke defended very well, sometimes with a bit of luck but they did what they had to do for the win.
Ìý
"We had a good run this winter but this game leaves us with a bitter taste because we had the potential and skills to win the provincial championship."
