OTTAWA - Defenceman Jasmine Sheehan scored the game-winner and added an assist to help goaltender Charline ³¢²¹²ú´Ç²Ô³Ùé post another CIS record-tying shutout as top-ranked McGill blanked Ottawa 3-0 in women's university hockey at the uOttawa Sports Complex, Sunday.

Ìý

The result was McGill's 88th consecutive conquest against Quebec University Hockey League opponents. It was also McGill's 28th consecutive victory over the Gee-Gees, who were the last QUHL team to defeat the Martlets, posting a 2-1 home-ice decision on Feb. 7, 2007. McGill is now 42-2-1 lifetime against Ottawa.

Ìý

³¢²¹²ú´Ç²Ô³Ùé, a senior from Boisbriand, Que., made 15 saves for her 57th career shutout overall, including 33 in league play which ties Laurier's Liz Knox for most regular-season shutouts in CIS history. It was also the 41st straight QUHL victory by ³¢²¹²ú´Ç²Ô³Ùé, who has a 54-1-0 lifetime record in regular-season action.

Sheehan, a fifth-year education senior from Mississauga, Ont., scored her first of the season on a power-play at 13:02 of the first stanza to give McGill a 1-0 lead.

Ìý

Just over five minutes later, sniper Ann-Sophie Bettez made it 2-0. It was the fifth of the campaign for Bettez, a two-time all-Canadian forward from Sept-Iles, Que., who added a helper and now has nine points in seven games, one shy of the conference scoring lead.

Ìý

The goal chased Gee-Gees starting netminder Kaitlynn Blasco of Milton, Ont., who made 10 saves and was credited with the loss. She was replaced by Stephanie Auger of Belleville, Ont., who kicked out 20 of 21 the rest of the way.

Ìý

After a scoreless middle period, rearguard Cathy Chartrand broke the Gee-Gees collective backs at 18:30 of the final stanza with her fifth of the season. The 5-foot-10 all-Canadian from Lac Nominingue, Que., leads all CIS blueliners in goals and is second in points with a 5-5-10 record in seven games.

Ìý

McGill, which had a 33-15 margin in shots, went 2-for-7 on the power-play and held Ottawa off the scoresheet despite six power-play opportunities.

Ìý

"We had good movement on our power-play," said Peter Smith, head coach of the Martlets. "We put a lot of pucks toward the net and were good at going after rebounds."

Ìý

Referee Jeff Demers had a busy afternoon, calling 13 minor penalties, including seven to the Gee-Gees.

Ìý

"It was a very physical game, probably the most we've seen this season," said Smith. "We like that style of play and wouldn't mind more games like that."

Ìý

The division-leading Martlets improved to 7-0 and will play their second of seven straight road games when they take on the second-place Montreal Carabins (4-3-2) on Nov. 26. Ottawa, which sits fourth with a 3-5-0 record, plays host to third-place Concordia (3-2-2) on Nov. 27.
