MONTREAL -- Sam Skulsky, a 19-year-old sophomore from Calgary, scored a pair of tries and added a conversion as McGill routed Bishop's 55-7 to cap an undefeated season and coasted to their fourth consecutive Quebec university men's rugby championship at Molson Stadium, Saturday.

The Redmen scored in waves, jumping into a 29-0 lead by the 22-minute mark and were comfortably ahead 43-7 at the halftime before they began making substitutions.

Skulsky, a 5-foot-10 centre, put the Redmen ahead 10-0 with two tries before the game was 10 minutes old. Evan Straight of Vancouver, B.C., made it 17-0 with a converted try nine minutes later and the rout was on.

Maxwell Gregory, a freshman from Vancouver, B.C., added a pair of tries, with singles going to Andrew Jarisz of Victoria, B.C., plus Bryce Thomassin and David Tontini, both of whom hail from Pointe Claire, Que. Alastair Crow of Victoria added three converts and Gideon Balloch of Ottawa had one conversion.

Nicholas Johnson of Toronto tallied the lone Gaiters try, which was converted by William Murphy of Richmond, Que.

"Crow really opened a lot of holes for us and Skulsky was out of this world today," said Craig Beemer, associate co-coach of the Redmen. "This result might have been expected after going undefeated during the regular season but the best team doesn't always win. This championship was the result of good talent mixed with hard work during practice and it was a pleasure to coach this bunch of guys."

It was the 12th consecutive league title for Thomassin, a civil engineering senior who's is the son of Dr. Bruce Thomassin, a former McGill football player. "I've been lucky to win at the high school, CEGEP and university levels but I've been blessed with good teammates and tremendous coaching along the way," he said. "But this win was special. We have a great bunch of guys and put a lot of pressure on our shoulders. When we get the ball, we expect our teammates to score every time."
Ìý
Thomassin is one of eight seniors expected to graduate, a list that includes Tontini, Straight and Jarisz, plus Cayse Ruiter of Ottawa, Graeme Kempthorne of Calgary and team captain James Stellick and Mike Davis, both from Mississauga.
Ìý
"Playing rugby at McGill has been everything I expected and more," said Stellick, who graduates with four titles in four years. "Most of my closest friends have been my teammates. We we're made to feel welcome by the veterans and coaches from the beginning and it's been a treat to come out for practice every day. It's been a wonderful experience."

The Redmen have one more mountain to climb as they now prepare to travel to Halifax where they will play Dalhousie, the Atlantic champions in an unofficial Eastern Canadian championship next Saturday. The Tigers edged McGill 14-12 on the final play of the contest in last year's title game at Molson Stadium.
Ìý
"We've had this date circled on our calendar for a whole year," said program director Sean McCaffrey, who has been part of the coaching staff for the past dozen years. "We've got some unfinished business to attend to."
