Reginald Fessenden Prizes in Innovation

Three annual prizes shall recognize novel research with commercialization potential and commemorate Reginald Fessenden's numerous innovations.

The prizes are:

Undergraduate student: $2,500
Graduate student: $3,500
Professor: $4,000

Reginald Aubrey Fessenden was a larger than life Canadian inventor and pioneer of radio communication. The holder of over 500 patents, Fessenden was first to transmit wireless speech in 1900 - preceding by one year Marconi's famed transatlantic broadcast of Morse code. Microphotography, a paging device and a turbo electric drive for ships are among his numerous other inventions.
