Redmen winger Wright gets invite to Habs camp

MONTREAL - Andrew Wright, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound left-winger with the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ men's hockey team, has received an invitation from the Montreal Canadiens to attend a development evaluation camp on June 10 at the Habs training facility in Brossard, Que.

A 21-year-old economics junior from Toronto, Wright is bidding to become the 10th McGill player to skate in the NHL. He is coming off a solid season with the Redmen, finishing fourth on the team in scoring with 33 points, including 12 goals in 24 regular season games. In 42 contests overall, he posted a 20-42-62 record with 54 penalty minutes.

Wright is among a number of McGill players to earn a tryout with an NHL team in recent years. The most prominent one is current Montreal Canadiens left-winger Mathieu Darche, who previously had stints with Columbus, Nashville, San Jose and Tampa Bay.

Redmen rearguard Marc-Andre Dorion of St. Hubert, Que., attended the Toronto Maple Leafs rookie camp in 2010 and the Dallas Stars camp before enrolling at McGill in 2008.

Other recent McGill grads to skate in an NHL camp after plaing for the Redmen include David Urquhart (New York Rangers, 2009; Montreal 2010), goaltender Mathieu Poitras (Anaheim, 2008; Washington, 2005), forward Greg Davis (St. Louis, 2001) and defenceman Todd Hanrahan (Pittsburgh, 1994).
