Quebec Engineering Competition (QEC) 2011

Published: 14 February 2011

Congratulations to all BREE students who took part in the Quebec Engineering Competition (QEC) held January 27 to 29, 2011. All engineering faculties across Quebec participate in this annual competition.

Please join me in congratulating the following BREE students who have won the 3rd place in the Senior Design Category.

Paul Deram
Justin Dougherty
Shefaza Esmail
Jonathan Martel-Gagnon

Their task was to program an autonomous robot that followed a line, launched a ball, hit a bell and traversed rough terrain. Points were awarded for the fastest robot and for the robot that accomplished most of the said tasks. The team had 11 hours to work on the robot and in that time the Senior Design Team agreed to not program the robot (due to insufficient software and hardware knowledge) and make a robot that worked mechanically using a motor and trigger mechanisms for the ball launch and the bell hit. Macdonald Campus' robot was the talk of the town for the weekend (because all other teams did program their robot)...and the team brought home an award!

The Department of Bioresource Engineering is very proud of you.
