Peroff and Wright named McGill athletes of the week

Jordanna Peroff of Keswick, Ont., and Andrew Wright of Toronto, are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending March 13, 2011.

Peroff, a 21-year-old senior majoring in world religions, was named tournament MVP and led all scorers with five points in three games as McGill captured the CIS women's hockey championship in Waterloo, Ont., over the weekend. The 5-foot-6 forward set up two goals in a 4-2 win over Alberta last Thursday, then tallied the game-winner in a 3-1 victory over Queen's on Saturday. She then scored once and assisted on the winning goal in a 5-2 decision over St. F.X. in Sunday's gold medal affair. Peroff, who was named player of the game in each of the last two contests, enrolled at McGill in 2007 from Keswick high school.

Wright, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-winger with the men's hockey team, scored three points and was named Harrow Sports player of the game in McGill's 6-2 road victory over the Western Ontario Mustangs en route to capturing the centennial edition of the OUA's Queen's Cup league championship. The 21-year-old economics junior scored McGill's second marker to give the Redmen a 2-0 lead, the added helpers to give improve that to 4-1 and 4-2 leads, respectively. Prior to McGill, he attended the Crescent School.
