NeuroDevNet, a new National Center for Excellence
Dr. Annette Majnemer, OT, PhD, FCAHS, Professor in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy as well as Co-Editor, Physical & Occupational Therapy in Pediatrics and Associate Editor, Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, announced the funding of more than 19.5 million dollars over the next 5 years of a new National Centre of Excellence (NCE) called NeuroDevNet.
This NCE will rapidly broaden our understanding of the causes of pediatric disorders of brain development with an initial focus on autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. Dr. Dan Goldowitz from the University of British Columbia leads this NCE, and McGill faculty are prominently integrated in this effort. From the School of Physical & Occupational Therapy, Dr. Michael Shevell (Adjunct Member, SPOT) leads the cerebral palsy demonstration project, and Drs. Limperopoulos and Majnemer are co-investigators. Dr. Annette Majnemer is also a member of the Research Steering Committee of the NCE, together with Dr. Alan Evans from the MNI. Other McGill faculty members actively involved include Drs. Salvatore Carbonetto and Eric Fombonne.
