National champion Redmen honoured at Habs-Leafs game

MONTREAL -- The CIS national championship won by the McGill University men's hockey team was honoured by the Montreal Canadiens during their 4-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre, Saturday.

The Redmen, who captured their first-ever CIS title with a 4-3 overtime win over Western on March 25 in Fredericton, were invited by Habs owner Geoff Molson, to watch the game from an executive box.

It was a first-class event and Mr. Molson, along with Canadiens left-winger Mathieu Darche, a former Redmen player, even dropped by the private box to mingle with McGill head coach Kelly Nobes and the team. The group was featured on the large video screen during a TV time-out and a video highlight of captain Evan Vossen's overtime winner was replayed for the fans.
