Muccilli and Picard-Hooper named McGill athletes of the week

MONTREAL - Victoria Muccilli of Mississauga, Ont., and Alexandre Picard-Hooper of Boucherville, Que., are the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 26, 2010.

Muccilli, a five-foot-nine rookie goaltender on the women's soccer team, posted a pair of shutouts in two weekend victories for the undefeated Martlets, who improved to 5-0-1 in regular season play. The 17-year-old science freshman kicked out all four shots faced in her two weekend starts, including two in a 0-0 tie against the Montreal Carabins on Sunday and two more in a 5-0 win over UQTR last Friday, extending her shutout streak to four consecutive league games. Muccilli is a product of Holy Name of Mary Collegiate secondary school.

Picard-Hooper, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound centre on the men's hockey team, scored five points, including three goals, as the Redmen won a pair of games to capture the Western Ontario preseason tournament in London over the weekend. The 23-year-old finance junior tallied twice, including the game-winner and added a pair of assists in McGill's 6-3 victory over the Western Mustangs on Sunday, in the tourney's gold medal contest. He added a goal in a 3-2 overtime shootout victory over Waterloo last Friday. Picard-Hooper, a graduate of College de Chicoutimi, joined the Redmen in 2008 after playing for St. John in the QMJHL.
