MONTREAL – Matthew Mosseler of Fredericton, N.B., tallied a game-high 18 points as McGill extended their win streak to three with a 3-2 victory over Memorial University of Newfoundland in an interlocking regular season men’s volleyball match at Quebec City, Friday.

The Redmen, who defeated Sherbrooke 3-1 on Jan. 10 and followed that with a 3-1 non-conference win over College Français on Jan. 14, downed the Memorial Sea-Hawks 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-13 in a match that took two hours and 10 minutes to play.

Mosseler racked up 17 kills and two assisted blocks to account for his 18 points. He was also credited with five digs.

Teammates Serhiy Kisyuk, Mark Hodge and Daniel Legge, also reached double figures in scoring.

Kisyuk, a freshman from the Ukraine, had 15 points on 12 kills, one ace and five assisted blocks, in addition to three digs. Hodge, a sophomore from St. Lambert, Que., recorded nine kills, one ace, one block and two assisted blocks. Legge, a junior from Peterborough, Ont., had 10 kills and a dig.

Team captain Thomas Fabian, a senior from Toronto, and recently returned veteran Vijay Gopalakrishnan, a native of Mississauga, also played key roles. Fabian came off the bench to chalk up six kills, one ace, a pair of assisted blocks and one dig, while Gopalakrishnan had four kills, six assisted blocks and a dig.

Memorial fell to 0-11 in the Atlantic conference, while the last-place Redmen improved to 4-8 in league action. McGill is just four points behind the Montreal Carabins, who currently hold down the third and final playoff berth with a 5-7 record.

The Redmen will look to extend their streak to four on Saturday afternoon when they will be in tough against Dalhousie, which leads the AUS with an 8-1 record.
