Montreal Gazette - McGill professor has grim food for thought
Geography professor Navin Ramankutty is challenging students to come up with ways to feed the world in 2050 when climate change and natural disasters affect the amount and usefulness of good arable land. As one of the professors affiliated with McGill's fledgling program in Sustainability, Science and Society, he encourages students to examine global problems like poverty, climate change and safe drinking water and search for solutions that are ethical and scientifically and economically sound.
"With looming global challenges around such issues as food security, access to clean water, poverty and climate change, it's especially important to give students the tools to analyze specific problems within a larger societal context," says Martin Grant, dean of McGill's science faculty.
