Minutemen seek revenge, triple Redmen
MONTREAL -- Brendan Ekhoff scored five goals and added a pair of
assists as the University of Massachusetts Minutemen lacrosse club
tripled an undermanned McGill men’s team 15-5 at Forbes Field,
Sunday.
It avenged McGill’s 10-5 victory on Saturday but the Redmen have
taken two of three lifetime meetings against Umass.
Handicapped by a team record low of 15 dressed players, eight fewer
than usual, the Redmen struggled with just five midfielders and no
defensive or attack substitutes. McGill fell behind 4-2 after the
opening stanza, trailed 8-2 at halftime and 9-4 after three
quarters.
Sophomore midfielder Mike Ting of Sudbury, Mass., led the Redmen
with a pair of goals, while Luke LaCava of Weston, Conn., tallied
once and added an assist. Rounding out the scoring for McGill
was Scott Bailey, a junior from Calgary, and Jacob Winn, a
defensive midfield specialist from Falmouth, Mass., who also
dominated on faceoffs.
The Redmen are off for the summer and will return to action in
early September.
