MUHC interdisciplinary research lab focuses on halting cancer-associated body wasting
Cure is the first goal of medicine and engages the attention of clinicians. However, despite the tremendous advances in modern medicine, many patients still suffer from the devastating consequences of incurable and terminal diseases such as significant weight loss caused by the wasting away of muscle and fat. The team of specialists at the McGill Nutrition and Performance Laboratory (MNUPAL) of the MUHC are focusing their efforts on counteracting the dramatic malnutrition and decline in functional performance that often accompany these diseases.
Join us for the official inauguration of this unique and innovative lab that provides "continuing care through research" by seeking ways and means to help these patients. The MNUPAL team applies an interdisciplinary research approach to the causes underlying the problem of body wasting related to incurable diseases. Through a coordinated network and partnership with the clinical services available at the MUHC, the goal of the MNUPAL is to put a halt to this deterioration by combining optimal pain and symptom management, nutritional/functional evaluations and interventions, in concert with tumour treatments.
Come meet the team and the participating patients.
