Media advisory: McGill launches Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science
The United Nations declared 2010 as the International Year of
Biodiversity, a celebration of life on Earth and of the value of
biodiversity for all. In this spirit, 㽶Ƶ is proud to
launch the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science (QCBS) bringing
together more than 60 scientists from eight academic institutions
(Bishop’s University, Concordia University, 㽶Ƶ,
Université de Montréal, Université du Québec à Rimouski, Université
du Québec à Montréal, Université Laval and Université de
Sherbrooke), in collaboration with the Montreal Botanical Garden
and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
The last decade has seen the development of impressive research in
biodiversity science within Quebec with outstanding scientists
working at the forefront of the field both nationally and
internationally. These researchers, however, were scattered across
numerous universities, government organizations and nongovernmental
agencies – until now. To foster collaboration, the Fonds québécois
de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies supported the
creation of the QCBS currently hosted by 㽶Ƶ’s
Department of Biology.
What: Launch of the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity
Science (QCBS)
When: Monday, February 15, 2010 - 10 a.m. – 12
p.m.
Where: New Residence Hall, 㽶Ƶ, 3623
Park Ave., Montreal
