McGill women second, men third at Golf Milby

LENNOXVILLE, Que. - Melissa Coré, a post-graduate student from Beaconsfield, Que., shot identical four-over par rounds of 77 to finish second of 26 women and led the McGill Martlets golf team to come in second of five teams at the opening Quebec university tournament at the Milby Golf Club in Lennoxville over the weekend.

The individual title was won by Alexandra Lévy of the Montreal Carabins who fired rounds of 65 and 76 to edge out Coré by three strokes. McGill's Victoria Kayser, a management junior from Germany, was 14 strokes off the pace, finishing eighth overall after shooting 87 and 78.

The Montreal Carabins won the women's tourney with a 15-over par score of 307. McGill was next with 319, followed by Laval (320), UQTR (331) and Sherbrooke (358).

On the men's side, McGill placed third of 11 teams, led by Aidan Brownlie, a fifth-year senior from Springfield, Mass., who tied for third of 69 golfers overall.Ìý Brownlie's shot an even par 73 on Saturday that included five three-putt greens. He ended up six strokes off the pace after shooting 75Ìýon Sunday.

Laval's Mathieu Gingras shot a four-under par 142 to win the individual title with rounds of 70 and 72. McGill teammates Sam Mamane (71 & 80) of Montreal and Kyle Schiissler (79 & 79) of Beaconsfield, were ninth and 20th, respectively.

Mamane had a great opening round on Saturday and was six-under par after 14 holes but finished with four bogeys to end with an excellent 2 under 71.

Laval won the men's tournament with a three-over par 587, followed by Montreal (617), McGill (626), Sherbrooke (636), Concordia (637), UQTR (640), ETS (644), Bishop's (650), UQO (680), UQAM (690) an UQAR (740).
