Stuart (Kip) Cobbett assumes new role after many years of service
Ï㽶ÊÓƵ is pleased to announce the appointment of Stuart (Kip) Cobbett to the position of Vice-Chair, Board of Governors, for a three-year term ending December 31, 2010. The Vice-Chair is a position defined by the University Statutes, bringing additional leadership and stewardship to the Board, in support of the Chair. As an at-large member of the Board, and as a member of the Board’s Nominating and Governance, Executive and Building & Property Committees, Mr. Cobbett brings his experience with McGill and his expertise to the position of Vice-Chair. In this role, Mr. Cobbett will also assume the duties of the Chair of the Board in the absence of current Chair, Robert Rabinovitch.
Managing partner (Montreal) and chief operating officer of the Canadian law firm Stikeman Elliott LLP, Mr. Cobbett is a McGill graduate (B.A. 1969, B.C.L. 1972) and has a long-standing relationship with the University. He has been an active member of the McGill Alumni Association for many years, and served as its president in 2002-2003. Mr. Cobbett’s diverse and dynamic contributions to the University include: Chair of the Advisory Board of the McGill News (1992-95); Chair of the Board of Visitors, Faculty of Arts (1994-96); member, Audit Committee of the Board of Governors, and lecturer in the Faculty of Law (1976-1985). Mr. Cobbett is a governor of the Quebec Bar Foundation and serves on several boards of directors.
The Board of Governors is the University’s highest governing body. It is composed of 25 voting members and two observers and generally meets six times per year.
