MONTREAL - A day after claiming the top spot in the country in the Maclean's magazine university rankings, Ï㽶ÊÓƵ has moved up on the world stage as well, rising to 11th place from 19th in the Times Higher Education rankings for clinical, pre-clinical and health education.

McGill followed the University of Oxford, which placed first, and Harvard University, which placed second - signaling that McGill continues to earn its reputation as the ivy league school of the north.

Dr. Samuel Benaroya, interim vice-principal of health affairs and interim dean of medicine at McGill, said he was pleased the university was recognized internationally for its fine work.

"Shaping the next generation of doctors and scientists is at the heart of all we do at McGill's Faculty of medicine and in its community of outstanding teaching hospitals," he said.

McGill Principal Heather Munroe-Blum said it was "gratifying to be consistently recognized among the world's best."
