MONTREAL - Kaiva Mateus and Daphnée-Maude André-Morin were both named to the all-tournament team as McGill swept the Montreal Carabins with a nail-biting 26-24, 26-24 and 26-24 score to win bronze at the 21st annual Martlets invitational at Love Competition Hall, Sunday.

It snapped Montreal's 23-game win streak over the Martlets since the last McGill conquest, a 3-2 home-court decision on Nov. 16, 2007.

McGill took three of their five matches over the tourney, which was won by Saint Mary's with a 3-0 sweep over Dalhousie.

Mateus, a 6-foot-1 senior middle blocker from Montreal, racked up 48 kills, 17 digs, seven stuff blocks and a pair of aces over 18 sets. In the last six sets, she was moved over to the power-hitter spot due to a plethora of injuries.

André-Morin, a 5-foot-7 libero who was born in Vaudreuil, Que., and raised in Kitchener, Ont., registered 103 digs with a 2.45 passing ratio out 3.

The Martlets opened on Friday with 3-0 and 3-1 victories over Memorial and Dalhousie, then dropped a pair of matches to Saint Mary's on Saturday, 3-2 and 3-0, respectively, including a semifinal affair, which relegated them to the bronze-medal affair.

McGill's first loss to SMU halted an 11-match win streak that they had registered since dropping their season opener to Toronto on Sept. 23.
