MONTREAL – Sarah Main and Maria Oswald, both natives of Vancouver, B.C., Ìýeach scored as McGill blanked the visiting York University Lions 2-0 to win their second straight OUA women’s field hockey game at Forbes Field, Friday.
The result, mirrored a 2-0 conquest over Queen’s in the league opener, Thursday. In that game, Oswald and Main also teamed up to score.
Main, a freshman forward, was credited with the game-winner against York, while Oswald, a sophomore midfielder registered her winning tally against the Lions.
Goalkeeper Jaqueline Riddle, a biochemistry sophomore from Guelph, Ont., was unsolvable both days and earned back-to-back shutouts.
The two-game sweep for the Martlets matches last year’s debut, which was the team’s best beginning in more than three decades.
McGill (2-0) will head down Highway 401 next weekend for three games in two days at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. They will take on the omnipotent Toronto Varsity Blues (2-0), perennial OUA champions, on Sept. 24, followed by a doubleheader on Sept. 25 against Waterloo and Western.
