Law student Mary Race wins ALDF Animal Law Scholarship
The Faculty of Law was happy to learn that law student Mary Race is one of two recipients of the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s (ALDF) Advancement of Animal Law Scholarship for 2009-2010.
Second-year BCL/LLB student Mary Race is the current president of the McGill ALDF student chapter. Race is also organizing a student-led seminar in Animal Law at McGill next fall. She explains that her interest in this area of the law began “when I read an article on the subject in the Faculty’s alumni magazine before I started my degree. It really captured my attention and heart.â€
Law Professor Wendy Adams is delighted: "Mary was competing against students from well over a hundred law faculties in Canada and the U.S., including some that have animal law programs. To win the award at all is fantastic. To have two of our students win recognition from the ALDF* in as many years is outstanding.â€
