Law Homecoming: (Un)Common Law et civilités matinales - a great success!
The Faculty of Law had a lot to celebrate at this yearâs Homecoming Breakfast â including 10 years of transsystemic education and 40 years of common law teaching.
This October 17, Dean Nicholas Kasirer welcomed more than 80 esteemed alumni to the Law Facultyâs Common Room for the breakfast, in conjunction with other McGill Homecoming activities. Homecoming is the annual celebration where graduates are invited back to campus to reconnect with old friends and faculty members, and to mix and mingle with current students.
Kasirer was thrilled with the turnout â and says those in attendance felt the same: âSo many graduates enjoyed telling me how they were impressed with the law students who attended as âushersâ (at 8 a.m. no less!), and with seeing staff, old (câest une façon de parler!) and new.â
The theme of this yearâs breakfast was â (Un)Common Law et civilitĂ©s matinalesâ to celebrate the unique aspects of McGillâs Law Faculty.
Not only is McGillâs the oldest law school in the country, but it was also the first to establish the transsystemic approach to legal education in 1999. McGill law students study in both French and English, and its graduates are able to practice in Canadian, US and UK common law systems as well as in Quebecâs civil law system.
