Law Firm raises more than $350,000 for students and research at McGill
Fasken Martineau has become the first law firm to make a major gift to Campaign McGill, the ambitious fundraising drive currently underway at the University.
Together the firm and its members are contributing more than $350,000 to create the Fasken Martineau Excellence Fund, which will be used to support both research and students at McGill’s Faculty of Law.
“We are tremendously grateful to Fasken Martineau for leading the way in supporting our best and brightest students,” said Dean of Law Nicholas Kasirer. “Given the number of our graduates that go on to build wonderful careers with Fasken Martineau, this gift is an incredible acknowledgement to the role that education plays in shaping the legal community as a whole.”
The Excellence Fund is comprised of three components, all of which are Faculty of Law and University priorities:
- The endowed Fasken Martineau Scholarship for Legal Excellence will provide a substantial renewable scholarship to an excellent student entering the BCL/LLB program at McGill’s Faculty of Law.
- The endowed Fasken Martineau Corporate Social Responsibility Research Fund will support students working as research assistants for law professors in the area of social responsibility.
- The Fasken Martineau Fund for the Journal of Law and Health will provide support to this student-run and peer-reviewed on health and the law.
Fasken Martineau’s aim is provide tangible financial support where it is most needed. “We like the idea of investing in the future by rewarding scholastic excellence, while also financing the immediate results which are provided by specific research,” said Claude Auger, Fasken Martineau’s Managing Partner for Quebec.
