Langelier-Parent named Quebec and Ontario athlete of the week!

MONTREAL -- Maxime Langelier-Parent, a centre with the McGill men's hockey team, has become the first athlete in school history to earn athlete-of- the-week honours in two conferences for the same seven-day period.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound forward from Lery, Que.,was picked as the Quebec DeFacto male athlete of the week and was also chosen as the Ontario University Athletics Pioneer Petroleums Athlete of the Week, for the period ending March 27, 2011. Each OUA weekly receives a $25 gift card and a dri-fit T-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Petroleums.

Langelier-Parent was McGill's leading scorer earned a berth on the all-tournament team at the CIS championship in Fredericton, N.B., last week. The 23-year-old economics junior tallied three points in three games, helping the Redmen reach the CIS gold medal game for the first time in school history, where the team finished with a silver medal.

Langelier-Parent scored twice and was named as McGill's player of the game in a 6-3 win over Alberts on Saturday. He also added an assist on the game-winning goal, midway through the third period of Thursday's 2-1 victory over St.FX. A product of the QMJHL's Gatineau Olympiques, he previously played for and attended College Francais prior to joining the Redmen in 2008.

It marks the 13th time this season that a McGill student-athlete has captured a weekly award selected by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.
