Lafourcade breaks McGill record, wins pentathlon gold at track meet

Lucas Lafourcade, a native of Bordeaux, France and a member the Redmen track & field team, set three personal bests in his first competition of the indoor season and smashed his own school record en route to winning a gold medal in the pentathlon at the Dome Distance Dance meet in Ottawa, Friday (Nov. 20).

A 19-year-old sophomore in International Development Studies, Lafourcade registered 3,483 points to break the McGill record of 3,320. He won the 60-metre hurdles (8.73 seconds), was second in the 1000m (2:55.09), won the high jump (1.86m), was second in the long jump (6.57m) and finished second in the shot put (11.43m).

He was the only member of the McGill track team to compete at the event. The intercollegiate indoor season officially gets underway on Nov. 27 with the Red, Garnet & Gold meet in Ottawa, followed by the first McGill Open meet of the season on Dec. 5.
