Ken Dewar appointed Acting Scientific Director

Dr. Richard I. Levin, Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Denis Thérien, Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations) of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, are pleased to announce the appointment of Ken Dewar, PhD, as Acting Scientific Director of the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and Génome Québec Innovation Centre.

In his new position, Dr. Dewar will be responsible for leading the Innovation Centre through a transition while a search committee identifies the next Chair. He has the full support of his colleagues and the administration to lead this Centre, with its history of achievement and excellence.

Dr. Dewar has been an assistant professor at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and a principal investigator at the Innovation Centre since 2002. In 2005, Dr. Dewar led the team that sequenced the deadly C. difficile strain residing in Quebec hospitals. He currently is involved in characterizing the genome of the vervet monkey.

The Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and Génome Québec Innovation Centre is a world-class research centre that acts as a source of knowledge and technology for the academic, industrial and commercial sectors. Apart from its service commitments, the Centre is a development facility for future leaders in genomics and proteomics. The facility also supports the training of postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in new biotechnologies, and acts as a beta site for developing new research products.
